Choose a food that is healthy and that your dog loves to eat

Choosing a good healthy food for your puppy or adult dog can be difficult because of the different opinions from pet professionals. The growing research showing that dogs health issues have been on the rise due to dogs eating kibble or processed dog foods has caused a major shift into feeding raw dog foods. I am not a nutritionist but my opinion is that raw dog foods are the healthiest for dogs in providing the proper proteins, vitamins, and minerals that your dog needs to live a very healthy life physically and cognitively. I suggest doing your research with a pet nutritionist or at least reading about the benefits of a raw dog food diet.

If you go with a raw dog food or kibble choose a food that your dog is very motivated for and the size of the pieces being big enough to hold and feed. Having a food that you can use to train your puppy or adult dog will help you tremendously with building engagement with your dog and them learning how to work for the resource instead of just getting it for doing nothing.

Take a few extra minutes and put your dogs meal into a treat pouch and hand feed in combination with practicing obedience training. Make it fun and enjoyable and you will see a big difference in the respect and value that you mean to your dog vs feeding them from a bowl.

Building engagement with your dog this way at first with minimal no distractions and then slowly progress to working around distractions. It will build confidence, manners, and stop potential behavioral problems from developing.
